A COLLIE IN YOUR FAMILY ?
Collies are from an ancestry of herding dogs. Being no longer in great demand as a herder, today's Collie has transferred these abilities to serving as a devoted family dog where he shows a particular affinity for small children.
Even though a collie is a large dog, he will be as happy with you in an apartment as he would be living on a farm. The key to his happiness is being with you. Collies love and are devoted to their families. When your collie is outside alone, you will often find him lying at the door of your home - as close as he can get to you.
Collies use their mouths and noses a lot. As you walk along, your collie may gently take your hand in his mouth. This is very common and is a sign of their affection. When they want your attention, they may "bump" you with their nose.
If you have a small child in your home or if one comes to visit, you will notice your collie going immediately up to the child. Collies love small children and are attracted to them like a magnet. In fact, small children can be abusive to collies, and the collie will not flinch. It is wise to make sure that children treat your collie kindly.
Collies are extremely loyal. You may want to check out our page on "Heroes" to read about some actual collie heroes from the past.
If you choose to bring a collie into your home, you will quickly find that you have a loyal and obedient friend that will be as happy with you as you are with him.
